Junior girls in the medals at Finals
Molly Warne and Alex Cherry played their last junior games for Hawks when they took part in their final junior games for the club at the Home Counties League Finals on Sunday. Megan Davies had previously played her last game at the National Club Finals event at Loughborough three weeks earlier. The three girls have all been an integral part of the team for many years and have contributed hugely to the success of the side over the years. Although they will be moving on from the junior teams, we very much hope to see them on the pitch at BRN as they continue to play in the adult sides.
At the League Finals the girls played a strong Surbiton side in their semi-final and despite some high quality, disciplined and very hard-working hockey lost 3 – 0. In the 3rd / 4th place play-off the team beat Horsham 1 – 0 to come third over-all. Having reached both League and Club Finals this year and with the majority of the squad still u18 next year, the players will hopefully be looking to achieve even greater things next season.
The U16 Girls went one better than the U18s at the League Finals on Sunday coming 2nd in their age group. In a nail-biting semi-final against Surbiton it took sudden death penalty flicks to separate the teams with Megan Magrosky in goal saving the deciding penalty stroke much to the delight of her team mates and the Hawks supporters. In the final Hawks played with skill, spirit and determination against a very strong Wycombe side. Despite losing 3 – 0, the performance was hugely promising for next season.
