Apologies for the delay in circulating information about the new season. However, all the uncertainty caused by Covid has hampered our preparations and although the sport of hockey has now been given a green light to return to something like normal activity, we have had much to do in a short space of time to make sure our activities and venue are properly compliant with the many new guidelines and regulations that have been set out. And as you have heard, there has also been a significant ‘changing of the guard’ amongst the ranks of people that run the junior section. All of this has meant a slower start to the season than usual, but here we are - up and running again.
Firstly, for all of these reasons, please note that the first date for junior training will be SUNDAY 20th SEPTEMBER 2020 (and not Sunday 13thSeptember as previously, provisionally, advised).
Rather than send a ‘Newsletter’ as we have done in previous years, we are this year going to send you a series of emails because of the volume of information that we need to disseminate down to you. This is the therefore the first in a series of emails over the next few days which will cover the following principal areas;
The ‘New Normal’ as a result of Covid
Training and Coaching Arrangements
Firstly, as you will hopefully already have learnt from an earlier email, I have assumed the responsibility for running the junior section at Hawks from Sue Clark. And Lisa Scragg has also stepped away – both of them after countless years of service to Hawks juniors. We are so very grateful to them both for all that they have done and I just hope I can do half as good a job as they have. I am the new ‘Junior Hockey Manager’ and will be responsible for managing all the administration that is associated with running the junior section and will to all intents and purposes become your new ‘front of house’ for Hawks Juniors. I will be your first port of call for all enquiries, queries and questions relating to junior hockey at Hawks (although Phill Williams will continue to look after membership). I helped with our younger age groups (U8 and U10) on Sunday mornings last season and I am a current member of our ladies’ section. I can be contacted firstname.lastname@example.org on 07765 642954.
Drew Blackburn is our new ‘Director of Junior Coaching’. Drew was himself a junior member at Hawks and is a current member of our men’s 1st XI squad, playing national league hockey for the club in each of the past two seasons. Drew will be responsible for overseeing coaching provision to our juniors and will be working closely with Todd Williams and Andy Clark (respectively our men’s and ladies 1st team coaches) to ensure consistency of message to juniors as they progress up through the groups and, hopefully, into our adult teams. Drew can be contacted email@example.com on 07528 754001.
The first subject that I’d like to cover is the ‘New Normal’ for the upcoming season. England Hockey has worked closely with the other major team sports in England to obtain government approval to resume something close to normal activity. However, this go-ahead comes with conditions and we need all parents to read and take on board certain documents and requirements so that we are all compliant and up to speed with how the ‘New Normal’ will look and work.
1. Please read England Hockey’sAdvice for Participants. There's also ashort videowhich summarises the advice.
2. Very importantly, any person (adult or junior) who wants to resume playing hockeymustsign up to and submit to England Hockey aParticipation Agreement. This is something that needs to be done just once but it must be done before you can resume playing. The form that you arrive at when you have followed the above link includes a “How to Fill-In the Participation Agreement” video.For all juniors (including U18’s), consent is required from a parent or guardian as covered at the end of the form. You will get a confirmation email if and when the form has been completed successfully and the Club will have access to a register of its members via the EH Portal for whom a Participation Agreement has been lodged. We will know therefore if this has been done and the Covid Compliance requirements are very clear in thatno junior will be permitted to resume playing hockey until a Participation Agreement is registered against their name. Please do therefore attend to this formality before Sunday 20 September, which is the first date for junior training .
3. For ‘Track and Trace’ purposes, all players must register in advance in order to attend training sessions. If a player does not pre-register attendance but still turns up for the session, we are afraid participation will be refused. You can register attendance for all junior training times via the Members Events page on the website. Note: training sessions for Sunday 20th September will be added to the website 6 days prior (on the 14th September), so please remember to register then.
4. The Club has written its own Protocol for Player Participation anda Covid-19 Risk Assessment which parents and players all need to follow. These can be found on the Covid Return to Play page on the website.
All parents should note that the Club’s appointed Covid-19 Officer is Henri Gordon who can be contacted firstname.lastname@example.org
That’s all from me for now. Watch out for further emails over the next couple of days.
