U12 Girls' success at the Oxford Festival
Oxford Hawks u12 Girls had a very successful afternoon at the Oxford Festival with all three teams finishing in the top three! A huge thank you to everyone who supported the mighty u12 girls and to Daniel and Kasey for managing their teams and Phil for being our designated festival umpire - we couldn't have had so many girls involved with out you :-)
Team A report
It was a chilly afternoon at Tilsley Park were the U12 Hawks Girls (A) team had arrived for the Oxford tournament.
A strong start to the tournament, dominating the ball and getting a couple of early shots off. However, 7 minutes in the pressure told leading to a well-worked Hawks goal 1-0. Our great defence allowed us to keep the Banbury attack at bay to get our first win of the tournament.
After a 2-match break, we came up against a strong Bicester side who pressed high up the pitch and quickly took a 1-0 lead. Hawks were struggling to get back into the rhythm they showed in the first match and another well-worked attack allowed Bicester to take a 2-goal lead. Hawks fought back scoring 1 goal but sadly it wasn’t enough, and the game ended 2-1
Much like the second game we still couldn’t re-find our smooth passing tempo and we found ourselves 1-0 down with 3 minutes to go, however the girls found some motivation when they heard they had to score to qualify for the Semi-finals. A great counter-attacking move topped with a great hit inside the D allowed us to score that all-important goal!
We progressed to the semi-final as the best of the rest and came up against a fired-up HAWKS (C) team. A great game with many end to end attacks sadly ended 0-0 with both goalies playing a big part in this vital game - SHUFFLES: sadly, we came out second best on this occasion losing 2:1 meaning we would be in the 3rd place playoff.
3RD PLACE PLAYOFF:
Despite losing 2-1 to this strong Bicester side in the group we came out 1-0 winners here with a dominant performance.
Carys and Phoebe in defence stayed strong not allowing the Bicester attack through. Lottie and Immy playing some great passes in the middle to Amelia and Emily on the wings and Yumna upfront and Mia in goal was excellent making some great saves.
All in all, a strong performance and the girl should be happy with their performance. Thank you to all the parents who came to watch on this cold Sunday afternoon
Team B report
Overall a strong team performance. They were very solid at the back throughout the tournament only conceding 1 goal. As a team they worked very hard to jump back. Making some marvellous tackles in the centre of the pitch. They looked equally impressive going forward. Dribbling the ball into space and always keeping a high player putting the oppositions defence under lots of pressure. Lots of goals were scored and lots of fun was had.
Team C report
With games being 10mins one way, the girls knew they needed to put their opposition under pressure. With Flora leading our press and a rotating midfield of Iris, Lydia, Nina and Annabelle the team were set up nicely to capitalise. Our defence of Coco, Isabel, Jemima stood solid and with Alice in goal confidently clearing her line, we didn't conceded a goal in all three of our pool games. We faced our own A team in the semi finals and only penalty shuffles could break the deadlock. We progressed then through to the finals, this time facing our B team. The match was strongly contested all over the pitch, both keepers making decisive saves. On to shuffles - Hawks B came out on top but everyone of the Hawks players can feel proud of their performance.
