U12 Boys at In2Hockey
The U12 boys successfully qualified for the Regionals in a day full of ups and downs. The Boys started in a confident manner by beating a resolute Banbury team 2-0 - Arthur Baldock and Sam Hill scoring the goals. A hard fought 0-0 against eventual winners Wallingford team followed with the defensive line of Sam Copping, Rufus Murray, Luke Prior and goal keeper Ben Pearce performing stoically. This point proved extremely important as a defeat in the next game against Bicester left Hawks on four points and in second place. The semi-final against Oxford will go down as an epic with the boys putting on a fantastic show. Leading into the final 20 seconds of the game, following Sam Copping’s deft finish from the impressive Raoul Patel’s thunderous short corner strike, Hawks were denied the win by conceding a scrappy equaliser with the hooter just about go. The resultant penalty flicks were tense with the momentum going one way then another. Arthur scored Hawks first stoke but Oxford maintained their composure to edge ahead 2-1. It was time for Ben Pearce to grab the headlines. A full length stop by Ben denied Oxford the victory and Sam Hill coolly slotted home to move the game into sudden death. Ben once again made an outstanding save and Raoul Patel displayed steel like nerves to put the boys into the final. Already through to the Regionals the boys played with freedom in the final against a strong Wallingford team (they had scored 15 goals in three matches up to this point). The game ended in a 0-0 draw which seemed a fair result. On this occasion the boys went down 3-2 on penalty flicks but left quite rightly feeling proud of their achievements during the day. A great squad effort with Sam Crowley working tirelessly up front, Alex Mc Cullum and Chris Batten giving energy to the midfield and the aforementioned Baldock, Hill, Pearce, Copping, Patel, Murray and Prior performing strongly.Well done boys!
