U10 Boys at In2Hockey
The Boys' U10 team knew they had a big ask to reach the final for the second year running as they would have to play as many as five games to get there.
The team started with a solid and professional 2-0 win against Witney before beating last year's winners Wallingford 1-0 in a tight and competitive game. Julian Laird was proving a menace upfront with all three goals whilst the back three of Xavier Maguire, Theo Baldock and Charlie Sutton were looking tough to beat with two clean sheets.
Back to back games followed against Thame and Banbury and both were defeated comfortably with score lines of 3-0 and 2-0 respectively. Fraser Mackenzie was a handful in midfield and was a constant threat, Zac Hartley's tireless running proved invaluable for the team and Archie Griffiths was versatile across the middle of the pitch.
Four wins from four led to a semi-final against Oxford and goalkeeper Leo was called into action for the first time. He answered all the questions that were asked of him with great confidence and provided the platform for a 3-0 victory.
Onto the final and great wide play from Finn Clogger resulted in another goal from Fraser as Hawks went 1-0 up early in the game. To Bicester's credit, they fought back well and made life difficult for the team as they equalised with three minutes remaining. Dom Crowley however was a constant threat and he combined with Julian to win a penalty corner.
Up stepped Fraser to finish in the corner of the goal and the game stayed at 2-1 for the final two minutes.
The boys were overjoyed to finish the long day as county champions and are looking forward to the regionals.
