On 1st March Hawks were invited to help with the Kidlington Hockey Festival for 10- and 11-year-olds.  Four primary schools sent teams.  They were:

  • Dr South’s
  • Edward Feild
  • St Thomas More
  • North Kidlington

The event was held at Gosford.  The teams were 7-a-side with no goalkeepers playing under QuikSticks rules.  Henri Gordon and Storm Sunderland umpired the games which was not easy as you had to decide between blowing up every foot or letting the game flow.

The children played very enthusiastically.  Some of the games had to go into extra time as there had been no goals in the first 7 minutes.  One game was still tied so the teams were reduced by a player on each side until the tie was broken.

In addition to praising the teams the organiser also chose some players from each team to receive a Respect certificate because they respected the umpires and followed their instructions.  It was a lovely idea.
