Falcons sink the Goldoliers by one cornetto!

22 February 2014

Falcons 1 - 0 Guildford Gondoliers

Hawks travelled to Guildford for a traditionally fractious fixture on Saturday. However, the game started in a unusually relaxed atmosphere, even a cut to the head sustained by a Guildford defender resulted in smiles all round!
As the game progressed Hawks began to dominate posession, but were unable to find a way through Guildford's defensive line. The opposition proved to be a threat on the break - provided with many opportunities to do so by Hawks squandered possession.
Hawks broke the deadlock when Mark Crampton-Smith, after good work on the right, fed Phil Dunnill inside the D. He was able to evade the 'tackles' of two defenders before pushing the ball under the diving keeper.

In the second half Hawks were again able to dominate possession, while Guildford's defending became increasingly physical. But even with a number of resulting short corners Hawks were unable to convert. Simon Smith came the closest when his bullet short-corner strike was deflected wide by a defender on the post.
