The Oxfordshire Hockey league was a great opportunity for some of our younger U14's to test themselves in a local derby against Oxford Hockey Club ensuring all our players got some competitive hockey this weekend.
A spritely Oxford team took up the challenge and pressed forward quickly with some good individual skill to go up 1-0 in the early stages but Hawks soon settled into their positions with Brad Fogden and Max Brennan working hard to control the midfield supported by debutante Ryan Lee as centre half.
Hawks industry paid off with Jack O'Donovan scoring a well hit ball from open play and Jay Woolford pressing home a second goal following further build up play from Jack O'D. In the second half Hawks continued to press forward with some great moves down both wings with Andrew Russell and Will Senior involved in many of these runs. Our passing game came together and we played some great hockey. This resulted in further goals from Ryan Lee and Andre Simmen and some near misses from Jack O'Donovan. At 4-1 with 10 minutes to go Oxford persevered and scored 2 goals but Hawks defence comprising Connor Whelan, Ollie Webb and Ed Poole managed to keep the attacks at bay with the end result being a good victory for Hawks at 4-3.
Hawks were also able to give both Will Hackett and Ben Elliott a half in goal each and both made some great clearances. A good team effort and great to see this team develop and start to play some passing hockey.
