Ladies' 5s continue winning run despite the weather & injuries

15 February 2014, 12:00, Banbury Road North (Near)

Ladies' 5s 6 - 0 Reading Ladies 4s

It was a wet and wild day with an initial worry that the Reading team would not be able to make it to Hawks as the M40 was closed due to falling trees ; luckily the match before was running late so they got to BRN in time but were only 10 for the first half.

Hawks had a storming start, with April and Sophy each getting a goal in within 5 minutes, helped by the fast work of the inners ( Gabs, Jen and Emily) and Lotty.

Our defence was never really put under pressure in the first half but did have to fight some fires with some breakaway runs by Reading. Gail did a stirling job as  first out on the  few short corners we gave away and on one more than occasion she got to the ball before a strike was made!   Towards the end of the half, we scored our third goal with a great deflection by Olivia following a short corner.

The half time talk was to focus on passing the ball before being tackled as we were losing the ball through hanging onto it for too long. Gabs took this to heart and went out storming in the second half being a real workhorse up the right, ably supported by Zara and Lotty. She was rewarded with a fantastic goal , struck from the line of the D ! We had a lot of attacking play in the second half with April scoring her second goal and Lotty having a superb goal from a short corner. Jen, Emily, Olivia  and Becky supported on the left.

But the second half saw a number of injuries to both teams, with players going off. Buffy who as ever is the reliable pivot in the centre of our team was hit on the ankle by a wild shot and missed the last 7 minutes of the game ; Zara was struck in the chest but continues you and Susan clashed heads with a player  who went off ( Susan stayed on though !). End of the match score was 6-0 to Hawks and Olivia Clark in goal still fresh as a daisy !  MoM was Gabs.
