Hawks arrived at the P&R clubhouse and walked the short 2 miles to the pitch, this was not a problem for many but for Jamie Clarks sporting his new Kookaburra Hush Puppies the cry was for Scotchguard to protect his new footwear.
Soon into their stride, Hawks should really have been 3 or 4 up in the first 10 minutes but found the P&R keeper in excellent form who managed to keep the scores level. Boots, Russell and Bromley all saw shots saved in this period but with the midfield of Freeman, Hardy and Willis moving the ball around well P&R were on their heals! Eventually Boots struck first as he laced one into the goal from a short after 15 minutes.
One nil at half time and the talk was all about how Hawks had allowed P&R to remain in the game, this was well judged as they equalised through a good short corner finish early in the second half. The game was then halted by a hailstorm that meant the players had to leave the pitch, Jamie used this time well to buff out the white water mark that had been left on his alternative footwear.
It was Hawks who struck first after this break when Boots restored the lead with a Tuff finish, P&R then equalised through John Dorner but his only spurred Hawks on with Jamie skidding into the D, loafed into space and sensibly used the chest of a defender to deflect the ball over the line. Boots then added a fourth as he threaded the ball into the goal to tie up the game.
There were a few nervous moments as Tim Jawner added a 3rd for P&R but Hawks secured the win due in part to excellent defence from Brantano and Converse at the back.
