Hawks after their positive display of last week were keen to take on Lewes at home. Lewes having lost a few players from their squad after Christmas showed their intent from the first whistle by immediately dropping to half court press. With the Lewes formation intent on cutting the space down it was a day for quick short passing. Unfortunately the basic skill of stopping and passing the ball had deserted Hawks, time and time again mis placed passes or mis traps gave the possession to Lewes. With Lewes showing little intent Hawks scored, James Ward’s upright reverse hit found the backboard. Hawks kept giving the ball away, however Lewes failed to capitalise often giving the ball back. With 10 minutes to go of the first half, Hawks lost the ball in midfield which resulted with a Lewes forward one on one with Phil Hargraves in goal, Dan Money managed to get back only to see his tackle, up end the Lewes forward for a penalty flick to be awarded. Duly converted, half time Hawks 1 Lewes 1.
With Lewes showing very little and despite Hawks lack of form it should have been a Hawks win. Hawks did go ahead from a Charlie Ellison converted short corner. Hawks then had a yellow phase with both Steve Kelly and Drew Blackburn given their marching orders. With nine players on the pitch Hawks conceded a short corner which was scored from a well worked routine. Final score Hawks 2 Lewes 2.
