An unusually strong start for Hawks 2s saw Southgate 2s struggling to get out of their own 25 for the first 10 minutes of Saturday's game. Hawks hard work paid off when they worked the ball into the D where Kasey Butler was on the keepers pads ready to put the ball into the goal. Hawks maintained the intensity of the game and were rewarded with a number of short corners. It was Sally Clark, this time, who was waiting on the post to put the ball across the line. The rest of the second half saw Hawks take their foot off the gas and the home team conceded two goals in quick succession.

A motivating team talk from Nathan and Andy soon saw the girls pick up the intensity, with wise words 'don't lose respect for the opposition' firmly in their minds. In the second half Hawks were back on fighting form. With Hawks defenders as composed as ever and the midfield and forwards making good connections, the home side created a number of opportunities going forward. A classic Werlinger deflection from a well-worked short corner was the first of four goals for the home team in the second half. It was Claire, Jo and Zoe who showed their composure in front of the goal, each slotting the ball past the keeper to make the final score 6-2. Man of the match went to defender Vicky Martin for her solid tackling and strong attacking play on the right hand side. Overall a good performance from Hawks 2s which saw them return to the top of the league- well done girls!
