First match back after Christmas and the Ladies 5s were raring to go! A great match against South Bucks with lots of opportunities on goal and great team play supporting each other off the ball. Having had an easy win against S Bucks in the first half of the season the 5s were optimistic. Fairly early on however it was clear that this was a substantially different team with many more younger players.
The game was fast paced and the first goal was scored by Hawks early in the first half. Buffy Hiner gave a strong pass to the P spot where Lotty Hiner deflected it past the keeper- great twin teamwork! South Bucks scored their first goal in the first half - they quickly moved the ball to the D on a break and overwhelmed our defence.
The second goal from Hawks was from a quickly taken long corner. Linda Phillips took it short, then passed to Buffy Hiner who crossed it for Lotty Hiner to put the ball in the goal- all before South Bucks defence got organised- more twins teamwork!
South Bucks scored a second goal to bring to 2.2 - also from a long corner when they wrong footed our defence and took a strong strike on goal. South Bucks continued to play as a well organised team and were quick on the break. A third Hawks goal from Buffy was disallowed and we were also unlucky to narrowly avoid the award of a penalty flick.
We felt that we had been unfortunate on a few occasions and despite being a strong side had not come out with a win. But we managed to hold onto a 2.2 draw and with some good play and we continued to work hard to make goal opportunities.
Man of the Match was Jen Wells for her speed on the ball and great space finding ! Well done Jen!
