On a sunny Saturday afternoon, Hawks Ladies Threes faced a particularly strong Buckingham side. In the first match back after the break, only two points separated first (Buckingham) and third (Hawks) in the league tables, so there was everything to play for, and Hawks were confident that they'd had the best possible preparation.

Fresh from their runaround with the 2s on Thursday evening the 3s made a bright and energetic start, with some excellent passing play. Buckingham were unable to get their game going because of disruption by Kim, Laura and Becca in the middle, combined with some suburb defence. Finally Hawks pressure paid off when some excellent build up play by Saskia and Lizzie resulted in a clinically dispatched reverse cross by Lizzie which was confidently slotted into the goal by Rebecca.

Buckingham came back very strongly with a series of short corners. Frustratingly they converted one of these on the stroke of half time leaving it at 1-1.

Despite rousing half time team talks by Andy and Kim, a change in formation by the Buckingham side helped them find more space in the middle and some fine passing saw them take the lead with a goal early in the second half. Some outstanding defence by Lottie, Rachel, Claire and Katie kept the score line down. This was in addition to some fine saves by Evelyn in goal. Eventually the pressure told and Buckingham scored a third goal to earn what was ultimately a deserved victory. However, Hawks showed outstanding endeavour and commitment and should be proud of their overall team performance. Congratulations to a well deserved Lottie for getting man of the match for some incredible defence. Thank you to Andy for his coaching during the game and to the umpires who controlled the game well.
