The Falcons travelled to Wokingham missing a few front line players but gained a point with a last gasp equaliser from Bear Smith. A small detour was needed on the way to secure a new pair of boots for John Elliot as the Bear and his Scoobie negotiated the one way streets and detours in down town Wokingham.
The Falcons lined up with Bear Smith leading the line and the youthful Jonny Atkins making his debut in the Falcons goal. The first half was fairly one sided with the Falcons taking the lead through a rebound from the goalie and Angus Fletcher was on hand to push the ball into the empty net. The author makes a note of the empty net! Wokingham created few chances but they were ably dealt with by the excellent keeping of Jonny Atkins.
A foul on Steve Griffiths was missed by the Wokingham umpire and the Falcons disbelief was confounded as the resultant short corner was converted by Wokingham with a firm shot in the bottom corner, 1 all at half time.
The second half was very different with Wokingham taking control and Jonny Atkins holding firm in the Falcons goal. Eventually he was beaten as Roly Brookman cleverly turned in a cross from the right. The Falcons pushed forward and should have equalised when Angus Fletcher found himself free with just a defender to beat and pushed the ball at what he hoped was an open net and the defender cleared off the line!
After several short corners were missed by the umpire and soft one was given and Bear Smith slammed the ball into the net for the equaliser to make the final scoreline just about right.
There was still time for the Bear to be involved in his final bit of drama as the Scoobie refused to start as the battery in his remote would not listen to reason. The author hopes the AA saved the day for the homeward bound Falcons - that is the emergency service one not the drinking lot if anyone is still reading!
