Watching the Mens 6's defeat Marlow's impressive 5's, skipper Spittles was impressed at how the 6's had managed to field (hide) 3 players who could easily play well up the club..He should not have worried as his Mens 5's put together a superb performnce to beat Marlow 4's by a margin of 5 goals - this could have been 10 had Charles "Persie" Darby had his shooting stick with him....
The game started with Foggy taking control of the middle with the rest of the team working well round him. The first goal was fittingly scored by Foggy who had been working well on the edge of the Marlow D, and his skill and perseverence was just too much for the Marlow defence.
having seen the 5's in front, he duly took a break and was replaced by the head Colts Coach Nathan. This coincidentally (?) saw the Marlow forwards rip through the hawks centre and score an equaliser straightaway. the lapse could have been the teams shock at going in front, but they quickly got back on it and began to take control again. the second goal came after much posession and time in the marlow D without outcome. Scraggy finished off a move courtesy of messrs Clarke, Venables, Dunleavy and Bentley.
2-1 at half time could have read 8-1, but the beginning of the second half saw Charles Darby convert one of his many chances, and this was quickly followed by an amazing goal by Adam Bentley. Karl had been effective on the right flank, but his 4 iron chip to nowhere initially drew rebuke from the skipper, only for it to go through half the Marlow team, find Adam on the 23, who then beat two players, and finished with a thunderous hit past the keeper - 4-1.
The rest of the second half saw Hawks continue their dominance, briefly interrupted by a Marlow goal caused by another of the Hawks golf team who managed to gift the increasingly grumpy Marlow forward.
The game then continued the way it had been going with Mark Shirley and Nathan Monk (2)
scoring the last 3 goals. Man of the match was Finn Dunleavy who supplied most of the dozen chances for the rest of the misfiring Hawks team.....
Great win to go into the winter break with, thanks to Nick Rogers and Geoff Pavey for umpiring.
