The Falcons went into their game missing two of their most influential players to injury and were soundly beaten by an Epsom side who took full advantage by winning five goals to two.
The Falcons started confidently and deservedly took the lead with a goal by Andy Bishop and all seemed well as skipper Dave Hughes rested himself just before half time. Ian Caws had been handling his speedy striker very well but pulled a hamstring and this changed the game. His striker then helped him self to two well taken goals and the score was 2-1 at half time, The Falcons were further weakened with Bear Smith and Andy Bishop both going off injured before half time!
What can a skipper say at half time? Just count the players and try and find a formation to play! Anyway Epsom played very good hockey and Fergus Flanaghan made some great saves and MOM Russ Warner ran his little legs off in midfield. Suffice to say Epsom added 3 more goals and the Falcons pulled one back through John Black.
Some positives: No more injuries in second half and Dave Hughes has refilled the First Aid kit with Ice Packs!
