The late shift at Ashford didnt feel that appetising on arrival, and maybe that feeling got to all the team.
In what Club Captain Rogers had said to the Skipper was a "must win fixture", we had to change that to a "must not lose fixture" after a bright start from the opposition.
An early goal from the team in red, slicing through the Hawks midfield and defence with shocking ease, really put their backs up. This was supposed to be an "easier" fixture, with Ashford only having 3 points compared to our lowly 7 points so far.....
Still, we huffed and we puffed, Scragg junior and senior supplying most of the endeavour down the right flank. Half time came and we were still one down. The chair called for belief at half time, the skipper just prayed for a goal....
And after many poor shorts at both ends, some good saves from Fergus, some bad misses from both sides, it was looking like a miserable 1-0 defeat, but eventually Ashley Robbins went on a mazy run and put a great ball in for Charles Van Persie to keep alive his fantasy league ratings and slot the ball home from his normal 6 inches.
It was a well fought point, and a draw was deserved. Second half performance and body language much better.
Man of the match Ashley Robbins
