With the combined efforts of our esteemed Colts head coach and the Men's first team coach, the 5's managed to win against their fellow strugglers Abingdon.
The match was highlighted by an astounding poachers performance by Charles "Persie" Darby, revelling in the improved service that messrs Newcombe and Monk delivered, and by a composed performance by young Johnny Florey, as well as an attempt to get the match abandoned by an as yet unidentified saboteur (H?) who turned the lights off.
Half time was notable for a brief hockey discourse by Danny, which the regulars nodded at knowingly but in truth hadn't a clue what he was talking about. The chair obviously hadn't , as he spent the whole of the second half experimenting positionally in the hope that Danny would give him the nod when optimum screening had been accomplished.....
Fergus made some good saves during the first half and was only undone by the Abingdon forward outpacing skipper Spittles and mis-hitting his shot under the advancing Fergus who had anticipated a more powerful shot.
All good, 3 points bagged, and away to Ashford next week (also at the bottom with us).
Thanks to Hugh Bentkey for his umpiring, and to our special guests who managed to lift themselves to our skilful ball play.
Man of the match was Charles "Persie" Darby.
