The U16 Boys team played away at Marlow this weekend in a rather frustrating match. Hawks started well and dominated play, scoring first through Oli Lovibond. After celebrating the goal, Hawks then sat back, allowing Marlow back into the match and letting them dictate play. Marlow scored a couple of well-deserved, but scrappy goals putting them in front before half-time.
A fairly stern team talk meant that Hawks came out fighting and scored two Oli Lovibond goals in quick succession. Hawks then fell back into bad habits – throwing many misguided overheads - and played almost the rest of the half under the cosh with Marlow running freely. They missed many chances and Hawks were lucky not to have conceded through one of the 8 short corners against them and countless open-play opportunities, before Matt Rogers scored a cheeky steal from Jonny Flory after a well worked short corner. That meant Hawks finished 4-2 winners, but it was a game stolen rather than won.
Man of the match was Finn Dunleavy.
