The day started well, with a few of us were supporting the Ladies 5s. Then when we headed for the car, Jane realised she had left the team shirts at home. One car set off for Maidenhead while a few of us went back to watch more of the 5s game while waiting for them to be delivered. Then during the warm up Phil realised she had her skirt on inside-out.
Once the game started our fortunes improved quickly with Sandra scoring a goal inside the first minute. After the restart we got a quick short corner, where Beth had a shot which the keeper saved, and Nikki followed in and scored from the rebound. 2 minutes gone, 2-0 up!
Maidenhead then woke up and created some pressure on the defence. Megan made some great saves, but eventually their pressure paid off and they got scored.
Hawks continued to pressure, with Gabs hitting the post and then Sophie D scored (her first of the season, much to her delight) with a shot from the edge of a crowded D. At half time we were 3-1 up.
During the second half Hawks continued to pile on the pressure with a number of near misses both from open play and short corners, and Beth got a goal taking the final score to 4-1.
Man of the match went to Heather, with Lizzie a close second and Gabs third.
Thanks go to the Miller girls who wrote excellent notes for the match report – budding journalists in the making I think.
