The Ladies 5th team had an exciting game on Saturday against Banbury and started off well with some good runs down both sides. We had a number of shots on goal without success and Banbury were strong in defence and had some quick legs to breakaway towards our D. Our defenders had to work hard in the first half to keep the ball out and Olivia proved strong as ever in goal. Towards the end of the first half, a short corner produced a superb goal from Sophie B.
The half time talk focussed on maintaining accurate short passing. In the second half the standard of passing improved and the team became more confident. After conceding a short corner goal with a great shot from Banbury we suddenly found form and the gaps. With great work by Sophy Tohi, Zara, Emma and Buffy as halves and fast work from the inners, we got three goals within 10 minutes. Emily Dawes managed to slip the ball in the goal through great positioning on the post. The third goal came from Emily T who was well placed at the top of the D for a fantastic strike straight past the keeper. Izzy aimed a very hard and accurate shot at the goal but unfortunately it hit a Banbury foot. This provided us with a short corner which Lotty converted into a great goal from a straight strike from the top of the D.
The man-of-the –match was Emily T who never stopped working hard and running to create spaces. Well played everyone!
