Continuing with Hawks fantastic start to the season, yet again the 5’s have gone out on a Saturday and dominated the opposition.

It all began in a very soggy Sonning… As the heavens opened the ladies decided to go for a warm-up. Whilst the majority of the team very decided to embrace the weather, although in a rather reluctant way, Ellie took it to another extreme by yielding an umbrella to protect her from the torrential downpour whilst taking a run.

Susan used her mystical captain powers to win the toss and Hawks had the first push. However, the whistle was blown to commence the game and a number of Hawks players were off the pitch, leading to not a very confident start.

Reading 4’s were a strong starting line-up and had some big hitters, but the positive attitude and unrelenting skills of the Hawks team meant they were not willing to have the first defeat of the season, and the first goal soon was on the score card. A brilliant ball through to Ellie from Lotty, and after some super dribbling saw the ball crossed to the far side of the goal to allow Blanche to sweep it past the keeper and over the line.

The remainder of the first half demonstrated strong play with some good counter attacks by great defending from the backs, excellent passing and dribbling of the ball by the mid-field players, and a number of near misses by the forwards.

The end of half whistle blew and Hawks were ready for some energy boosting jelly babies!

The second half saw Hawks coming out with a vengeance and a great interception by Buffy allowed for a very strong break. She dribbled the ball up the pitch before a strong pass to Blanche in the D, she then drew out the keeper before a short pass to Dette who then finished with a push into the goal.

A third goal then soon followed from a boundless strike by Buffy from an amazing drag in by Gabs on a short corner. Leading to the final score to be 3-0 to Hawks. Another fantastic game had by all with high skill level, complimentary leads, and brilliant running to receive the ball. A special mention to Becky who was voted lady of the match for her excellent interceptions and incredible passing.
