Hawks travelled around the M25, down the M23 past Gatwick airport to newly promoted Lewes who defeated Oxford University last week. Lewes have always been a difficult team to beat, well organised and always looking to counter. The game started brightly for Hawks with the forwards causing a few problems to the Lewes defence. True to form Lewes had a few breaks, squandering chances by missing the Hawks goal. The game was a midfield battle with neither side threatening the goal. Lewes did go ahead after a crashed ball into the D was deflected past MOM Phil Hargraves. Half time Lewes 1 Hawks 1.
Lewes started the second half a little stronger than Hawks, a few goalmouth scrambles were calmly dealt with by Hargraves. The game was in deadlock with neither side looking dangerous but with 10 minutes to go Hawks took the game to Lewes and were rewarded after Drew Blackburn picked the ball up with his back to the goal and calmly stroked the ball into the goal. Final score 1 : 1. A competitive game of good hockey.
