Ladies 4s score big against Bicester
12 October 2013, 10:30, Banbury Road North (Near)
Ladies' 4s 6 - 1 Bicester Ladies' 2s
The ladies 4s awoke to a cold, wet and miserable morning, but by the time we made our way out to the pitch the rain had stopped and the sun was starting to break through. It was an omen for a good performance to come! hawks took the the intensity of their warm up into the game and were soon rewarded with an early goal from Zoe Lamb. Continued pressure lead to a number of penalty corners and 2 more goals (Sandra Satterly, Zoe). Hawks started to tire towards the end of the half and conceded a goal, but a rally from Hawks saw Linda put away another goal to make the score 4-1 at half time.
The second half saw some excellent play. The ball was moved around the pitch well. Vicky Martin made some great calls from the back and we really made use of the space in the middle of the pitch. Catherine Taylor capitalised on the space, picking the ball up at the top of the D and smacking it untouched into the right hand corner of the goal, exactly where Phil had identified their weak spot. Despite cries from Bicester that the ball was outside of the D, the goal was (correctly) awarded and the score was 5-1. Bicester had a few breaks but Hawks back tracked well and man of the match Phil Williams repeatedly stepped up and intercepted their passes. The final goal came from Zoe, who completed her hat trick by dribbling into the D and beating at least 3 players before calmly reverse hitting the ball into the goal. Final score Hawks 6 -Bicester 1.
A final mention to Sandra and Lizzie for their amazing cakes, can Phil keep up the high standards next week......
