After a forfeited game last weekend the fives went into their first league game with 3 points already on the board. Knowing from last years draw against South Bucks that the pitch was extremely sandy and slow the team knew that strong hits were needed and moving the ball up the pitch through pace and dribbling would be essential. The team was a large relatively new team, which did mean that there were plenty of subs so throughout the game fresh legs were added to maintain the intensity.

The game started well for Hawks with them keeping most of the ball possession. The inners and halfs on both the left and right worked well together to get the ball up the slow pitch into threatening areas within the D. Nearing the end of the first half a short corner slip from Buffy to Lizzie resulted in Hawks' first goal of the league and game. Score at the end if the first half Hawks 1, South Bucks 0.

Quick team talk with Susan in the break reminded the team to keep their passes strong and to keep up the pace. The second half started well with attacks from Sophie and Lizzie up the pitch along with Gabs and Lissy as the inners. Another short corner success soon followed when Emma deflected in the second goal of the game. The pace continued and Olivia kept on top of any attacks against Hawks through strongly commanding the defence. After another short corner a similar situation occurred and Emma deflected in her second goal of the game, almost identically to the first. Hawks fully on the ball now looked threatening whenever they approached the D. Lizzie continued to make commanding runs through the middle with good stick skills to keep off defenders. In the last part of the game Lottie managed to get enough time on the ball in the D to hit in Hawks' fourth goal of the game. A very well played game by the whole of the team and an extremely strong win to start the season.

Thanks to Wendy and Gail for each umpiring a half.
