What a difference a week (and 4 extra players) makes. Last week the Ladies 4s were on the wrong end of a disappointing 2-1 result away at Sonning with just 11 players. This week brought their first home league game of the season against Wycombe 4s; and a squad of 15 players! Hawks started off strongly from the whistle and were soon 1-0 up with a great put away from Nicky who was playing her first game as an inner. Hawks continued to have the majority of possession and put together a lot of excellent passing play. The goals continued to flow in the first half with Nicky getting a further one, Sandra scoring two (both with dives!) and one from Zoe. 5-0 at half time.
The second half started much the same. Any attacks Wycombe had were well contained by the Hawks defence. The closest Wycombe came to scoring was in the second half, with Becky clearing off the line. They also had just one short corner which was easily defended. Up front the excellent passing play continued for the first half of the second half. Zoe scored a further 3 goals and Sandra also got her hat-trick. On top of this the rest of the forward line were all unlucky not to add their names to the score sheet. Hawks did start to tire in the last 15 minutes but managed to keep going and the final score was 9-0. A great goal total but also importantly keeping a clean sheet, well and truly making up for last week’s defeat and a promising performance for the rest of the season.
Man of the match was a close call between the 3 goal scorers but the deciding vote went to Sandra for her hat-trick and spectacular diving goals!
