The 3's 3 and the 4's 1

21 September 2013, 14:00, Banbury Road North (Top)

Men's 3s 3 - 1 Oxford Hawks Men's 4s

With many new players joining the club and keen to impress the 3's v 4's was always going to be a competitive game and so it played out. With Tim Martin setting the tone in the second minute this his trademark last ditch stick hooking tackle that led to the first short corner for the 4's, Tim suggested that it might have been a little harsh, but the umpire could not take him seriously as he was wearing a 'I love Hackney' white T shirt. The 4's started the stronger and claimed territorial advantage and Fergus O'Thatjusthitme in goal made a number of good stops to keep the scores level.

The 3's started to pass to each other after 15 minutes and this change of tactic seemed to work well and ended with Simon 'Boots' Dawson ghosting in a the back post to slot the ball past Biggs in the 4's goal to go one nil up. The 3's piled on the pressure and Biggs made a number of fine saves before Tom Le Grand Ging' Best announced himself in the 3's with a topped faff that went up Biggsies sleeve, out through the top of his 'Smmmock' (ISCA old boys will remember this homage) before dropping down behind him into the goal.

No hairdryer at half time from Big Dog who decided that introducing players to each other was the best route forward. This worked for all of 5 minutes before the forgotten skill of running it into a flat stick was re-introduced with that the 4's dug in and came into the fray again with a passing game that saw them pressure the 3rd team 'D' sadly this lacked the bite to turn this advantage into goals. The game was put to bed by the flame haired *hithouse door Tom Best who bulldozed his way into the D, knocking over both umpires, the frame of the goal and a man walking his dog in Cutteslowe park before slamming the ball past Biggs.

The 4's grabbed a consolation goal from the penalty spot after Tim Martin deflected the ball on the line with his heart, don't worry everyone it was the printed heart on his I love Hackney T'shirt and Charlie Robbins completely wrong footed Fergus O'Imissedit by taking a decent stroke.

So all in all, a good game of Hockey this early in the Season, they have a bit of work to do before the start of the league season, but things bode well for both teams for the forthcoming season.
