The Ladies 2s started off the day watching the Ladies 1s play some great hockey which resulted in a 6-1 win and felt inspired as they went into their first league game against West Hampstead. The opposition had some familiar faces with previous Hawks players, Sjouke Tolsma and Steph Kalber playing in white this time.
The 2s put pressure on West Hampstead from the first whistle, with Lucy Millington picking up the ball outside the opposition's 25 and then driving into the D to score a great goal after just 5 minutes. With the score at 1-0, West Hampstead passed the ball well and were soon in Hawks D, where the defence had to work hard to prevent a goal to even the score. West Hampstead were then awarded a penalty corner which captain, Sjouke Tolsma scored to make it 1-1.
Hawks struggled occasionally to make connections in the final third, however a penalty corner was awarded after some great attacking play from Abi Flory, which Jess Oakhill converted to make the score 2-1. West Hampstead continued to create chances in the Hawks D but goalkeeper, Linda Billington kept the score at 2-1 with some great saves. Kasey Butler scored Hawks' 3rd goal just before half time giving Hawks a 3-1 lead going into the 2nd half.
Hawks started the 2nd half well after wise words from Andy Clark, Andy Warne and Lisa Scragg at half time. The 2s started to put everything from training into practice and created a number of chances in West Hampstead's D. Man of the match Anna Clark caused a lot of problems for the opposition with her work rate and skillful play around and in the D. However West Hampstead's goalkeeper, Steph Kalber made some good saves to keep the score at 3-1. Hawks continued pushing forward with Briony Anyon and Jo Tolson combining really well on the right hand side. Briony then played a great ball across the goal which wasn't converted on this occasion.
Helen Nicholson scored the 4th goal from a penalty corner. The Ladies 2s continued to work hard in all areas of the pitch until the final whistle. The game ended at 4-1 and was a great start to the season!
