It was the first friendly of the season; Hawks ladies 3 started with a good warm up and were ready to put out a strong fight. The game began slowly with Hawks and Oxford shaking off the cobwebs from over the summer period. There was some good passing and strong defensive work from, Kim, Jacs, Caroline, Jane, Molly, Katie and Rachel, which kept Oxford at bay in the first half. The inner-line and the attacking line consisting of Rosie, Laura, Jess, Katherine and Rebecca worked hard to push Oxford back and the opportunity for Hawks to attack hard opened up. Hawks scored the first goal with a ball from Jacs played nicely to Rebecca who receive the ball on the T spot and drove hard at the Oxford goalkeeper, where she flicked it over her into the back of the net. The scored in the first half was 1-0 to Hawks.
Oxford came back hard by using the width of the pitch and small triangles to attack Hawks players. Their good transferring meant Oxford could attack strongly, which left Hawks on the back foot. Oxford scored 3 successive goals, denting Hawks’s confidence leaving no time for Hawks to attack the Oxford half. The end result as 3-1 after a very strong second half from the Oxford team. The player of the match was Laura for her continuing good attacking and defending work and she worked extremely hard to maintain a high pace on and off the ball.
This leaves Hawks 3s fighting to get a win this week.
