This week the fours were to face Harlow High Wycombe, which they knew would be a tough game. However with the heavy downpour of rain the game was to become that little bit harder.

It was clear from the start that the opposition were not keen on playing in the weather conditions, staying warm and dry in the dug outs while hawks braved the elements for a positive team warm up.

However, before the match even started hawks were faced with a problem, who was to umpire? It was decided that Linda would take this role in the first half, swapping for the 2nd.

The first 5 minutes of play was exactly what the opposition wanted, an early break leading to a goal. The opposition had one key player that was able to use her skill and speed to get through all the gaps in our formation to score a score. Hawks were determined to not let this level of play to continue and stepped up their game.

Hawks then showed a higher level of determination to win and showed some great play. The defensive players worked strongly together blocking the opposition’s attempts on goal scoring. The play was worked up both sides of the pitch with great skill showing from many of the hawk’s players.

We were rewarded for out hard work, going into half time ahead with a score of 3-2 to Hawks.

The level of play in the second half continued from the hard work the fours put into the first half, they were determined to win and show worthy of getting those 3 points.

A break in the rain saw hawks continue playing strongly creating many chances for more goals. Despite many good attempts the oppositions keeper proved it that she was determined to save everything she could. After a period of long play in the attacking 25 Hawks managed to convert a short corner into a goal.

Towards the end of the match Hawks seemed to look like they were taking the back foot in the play, the opposition had much more possession of the ball and were showing they could still win the game. They opposition once again used their strong attacker to the advantage using her speed to break through the hawks mid filed and defence. Within the last 10 minutes of the game hawks saw this happening two times, leaving the score at 4-4.

Hawks then pushed onto the whistle still determined and showed how strong they work as a team. Both the defensive and mid-field worked hard to block the attacks and pass the ball out wide to the waiting attackers. In the final few minutes of the game Linda gained the winning goal after a string of play within the D before putting the ball over the keeper.

The end of the match saw a happy team proud of their performance.
