The 3rd team eventually managed a comprehensive victory against Milton Keynes with excellent performances from joint players of the match Sophie Spies and Laura Blakey. Initially, it was hard to break down Milton Keynes’ defensive formation and Hawks struggled to make many goal scoring opportunities. However, after the first 15 minutes of frustrating hockey, Hawks settled down and took more control of the game, with better distribution of the ball. Several penalty corners were won but a failure to convert them kept the game scoreless until a good break from Laura led to an own goal via a defensive deflection past the goalie. This enabled Hawks to relax and as the game progressed, four more goals were scored, with another from Laura and one each from Sophie Spies, Sophie Bennett and Rosie McEwen Smith. The best celebration came from Sophie S after her shot from the edge of the D flew past the keeper. Sophie B almost scored a sixth goal but the final whistle went just before the ball crossed the line so Hawks had to settle for a five nil win.
