Bicester made their intentions clear when they immediately put pressure on the Ladies 2s from the starting whistle. Hawks knew they were in for a tough match.
Claire Werlinger broke the deadlock with a great finish making the score 1-0. However Bicester responded well and played a string of passes to get into the Hawks D. Bicester got their initial shot away and followed this up, but Linda Billington made a number of great saves to deny them a goal. Bicester were then awarded a penalty flick which was converted, making it 1-1.
Emily Smith was unlucky not to score when she displayed great skills to pass a number of Bicester defenders, however the goal keeper made a good save to deny the 2s a second goal.
Just before half-time, the 2s were awarded a penalty flick. Helen Nicholson stepped up and calmly placed the ball past the Bicester goal keeper, making the score 2-1.
A half time team talk from Andy Warne and Nathan Monk inspired the 2s to go out and dominate the 2nd half. Another goal from Claire gave Hawks a 2 goal cushion however this did not stop Bicester and they kept on passing the ball and frequently had chances in the D.
Lucy Millington’s individual skills then created a further chance in the D for the 2s and she finished well, making the score 4-1. Man of the match Helen worked tirelessly in midfield, creating a number of chances in the D while working hard to get back to defend. The fifth goal was scored by Claire, giving her a well-deserved hat trick.
Bicester scored a second goal towards the end of the second half, however the 2s responded well and maintained the passing and off the ball movement, which had worked so well during the second half.
Another great team performance from the 2s with everyone working hard till the final whistle. Thanks to Evelyn Hargraves for the photos.
