with snow falling and the Manager's mobile phone red hot as players were dropping like flies with the bug, the bare XI prepared to do battle. All fingers were crossed that the conditions did not lead to an injury and leave the team with 10 men. In the first 20 minutes Tyler Simpson was outstanding and with his pace and the guile of Dawson Aylesbury were on the back foot.
A sublime piece of skill saw Simpson ghost into the D and his Dutchman foxed the keeper and found the net. Dawson the made it 2 with a well struck short corner. At this point the passing of Hawks for a 15 minute period went to pot and the frustration broke all momentum as the 1st half ended 2 goals to nil. Humphries in goal for Hawks ensured that this period did not allow Aylesbury back in the game.
In the 2nd half the midfield of Torbjorn Turland, Nathan Monk and Dave Barber took control and settled the team. The game became a familiar pattern of Hawks attack trying to break down Aylesbury defence but the final ball usually ended on an Aylesbury stick for the ball to be comprehensively cleared up the pitch.
Chances went begging and Simpson should perhaps have capped his performance with a goal in the last few minutes which missed the top corner by inches. Overall a very satisfactory win where the team worked hard and ground out a win.
