Oxford Hawks resumed their league campaign in style against third placed Ipswich, running out thoroughly deserved 3 - 1 winners. Wearing their new kit, sponsored by Shaw Gibbs, the match didn't start as planned, going down 1 - 0 with a well struck short corner. The girls responded well however, converting a corner of their own with a perfect deflection from Becky Odlin. Moments later Hawks scored again, with another perfect routine finished by Kirsty Chapman, up from the back. Only a few minutes later Hawks won another corner, and delighted the home crowd by continuing their 100% conversion record with a well finished goal from captain Bex Oakes on the left post. The game continued to be played at lightening pace, partly thanks to the ball patrollers on the sidelines for the first time, but the score remained 3 - 1 until half time.
The second half continued at the fast pace. Bex Oakes almost scored her second but rattled the crossbar from another corner. Jess Hudson in goal was tested a few times but was absolutely phenomenal, with a key double save to keep the away side out. Hawks continued to play patient, controlled hockey, in their best performance of the season, to jump into 7th place in the table, hot on the heels of the teams just above.
