Hawks' Girls Development team, The Harriers, had already won their league the previous week. However, they were keen to maintain their unbeaten record as they went into their last game of the season against Witney.
Hawks started strongly, and forwards Rosie Mills, Poppy Webb and Chloe Scragg looked threatening on a number of occasions; however the Witney defence stayed strong and some great saves from their keeper prevented any score in the initial stages. After twenty minutes Hawks did go ahead when Annabel Gulliver converted a penalty corner. Hawks defence of Flora Smiley, Rosie Arbuthnot and Molly Cooke dealt confidently with the Witney forwards and Olivia Clark in goal had little to do in the first half.
A determined Witney side were not going to be beaten easily and levelled the scores with a very well finished goal following an attack down the right early in the second half. Hawks responded well and Anna Nawn and Annabel Gulliver in the Hawks midfield created several further opportunities before Gulliver scored the winner for Hawks. Poppy Webb was voted player of the match after a fantastic performance at centre forward however all the players can be very proud of their performances throughout the season. Many thanks to Bex Strange, Sarah Blakey, Linda Phillips and Molly Warne for playing alongside the girls today.
