It’s always a tight game against Wycombe and yet again on Sunday the game could have gone either way. Both sides were looking to attack and there was space for the ball to be moved around and chances created.
It was the Eagles who opened the scoring with a strong strike from Sherene after one of those team passing moves, but it was only a few minutes later that Wycombe equalised from a short corner and at half time it was still 1-1 and all to play for.
Wycombe came out hard in the second half and their determination led to two quick goals, the second being a well taken penalty flick. Undeterred the Eagles continued to attack and with ten minutes to go scored a well-rehearsed (well it looked well-rehearsed!) short corner routine with Kelly pushing the ball home.
Then ensued a period of intense attack from the Eagles and dogged defence from Wycombe. It wasn’t to be for the home team and the Wycombe players cheered with gusto at the end. It was only then that we realised they knew with that victory they had won the league.
So, congratulations to Wycombe on their league win and to the Eagles for a well-played and hard-fought game. Thanks to Jacs and Charlie for umpiring, and Sophie and Henry for keeping all the subs in order.
