L8s shine in the afternoon sun

Ladies' 8s 3 - 1 Wootton Wanderers Ladies 3s
It was a bright sunny but fresh afternoon as the 8s welcomed and took on Wootton 3s.
After some initial exchanges it was Hawks who put together the first meaningful phases of play. Combinations between Rachel and Liv supported by tenacious tackling and tracking back by Kinari and Hsu saw Hawks put the pressure on.
As the pressure built Hawks made the first break through, as Kate slotted in a precise shot past the oppo keeper.
Hawks saw off some counter attacks with strong defending from Gill, Sarah and Deborah. And it was hawks who ended up on the front foot and a one nil lead going into the break
Second half saw Hawks continue to keep their shape and play with energy. This energetic start soon got rewarded when Emmy made the score two nil 5 mins after the break.
In the 20th minute of the second half Wootton surprisingly got a goal back - very much against the run of play.
Despite the close score line Hawks pushed on to look to close out the game. And close out the game they did with 7 minutes remaining, once again Emmy was in close to finish from a deflected save from the keeper to take the score to an unassailable 3 - 1 lead.
And that’s how it finished - lots of candidates for player of the match (Kate, Rachel, Kinari, Niv, Leo) but in the end Emmy’s performance, including two goals, secured the award.
