It was a bright, sunny but cold day and we knew this was going to be a fast, tough match. Oxford University attacked hard and fast in the first few minutes, resulting in a goal in the first quarter. Hawks dug in, determined to not let another goal in and settled down into the match with some lovely passing across the pitch and up the wings. There were a lot of ball turnovers and Oxford Uni had another great opportunity by making a run right down the middle of the pitch but was stopped by Becky chasing behind, being persistent and not giving up.

Oxford Uni applied a lot of pressure but in the last 15 minutes of the first half, Hawks dominated the game. 30 minutes in, Hawks secured a short corner followed by another short corner. Karen injected to Kelly, who hit it to Sherene who hit a great high ball into the goal which was unfortunately disallowed. 3 minutes later, Hawks equalised after a fantastic connection of passes, with Monica passing to Sherene who hit it into the D where Karen was able to get her stick on the ball and deflect it into the top corner of the goal. Hawks nearly scored again but went into half time at 1 all.

At half time, Susan discussed tactics, for us to go forward to try and gain the lead. It worked! 15 minutes into the second half, Karen and Sherene did it again. Sherene drew the goalkeeper out of the goal and got the ball in! 2:1 to Hawks!

Hawks dug deep and defended well for the rest of the second half. There was sustained pressure from the Uni side. Short corner followed short corner! They almost scored a few times however Purdy and the defending team of Becky, Susan, Evie, Kayleigh, Claire and Holly were fantastic at keeping the ball out of the goal. A great result and a well-deserved win for a team who just kept persevering.  Claire was fantastic as centre half, distributing the ball at all times. Susan and Becky were steady in the back organising the team. Monica and Chloe never gave up and were always fighting for the ball. Polly and Emily were putting great pressure on the Uni side by marking tightly and intercepting well.

There were POM nominations for Purdy, Susan, Evie, Claire and Sherene but the Player of the match was Karen who played an awesome game.
