Ladies' 4s 2 - 1 Wallingford Ladies 2s
For the first league game of the season Hawks Ladies 4’s met Wallingford 2’s at home and set out for a repeat performance of their friendly meet 2 weeks ago.
Wallingford started strong playing mostly in the Hawks half. However Hawks remained strong and began to take control of the game, passing nicely around the pitch, using some lovely 2-1 passing between Rebecca, Rom and Vicky down the wing. Hawks created great opportunities on goal applying pressure and eventually won a short corner. Injection straight to Catherine at the top of the D and a superb straight strike from Rebecca which she fired into the bottom left hand corner. Hawks were 1-0 up.
Wallingford came back fighting and pressing hard but Hawks stayed strong with Becky and Lottie at the back keeping Wallingford at bay, and Katie and Alice making some great follow up tackles.
1-0 going into the second half both teams fought hard but eventually Wallingford broke the Hawks defence and made it 1-1.
Hawks did not give up and were fighting for the win. With lots of great play all over the pitch, Hawks won a free hit just inside Wallingford’s half and with some superb passing from the back all the way down the pitch Rom found herself on the end of a great pass and on goal. She scored with 1 minute to go. Hawks won 2-1.
