Ladies 4s struggle at Thame
11 December 2021, 11:30, Thame Leisure Centre
Ladies' 4s 1 - 6 Thame Ladies 1s
On a cold December morning, the Ladies 4s found themselves with a much-changed side away at Thame - and even those present were not all in the best of health. After a sluggish start when we conceded a sloppy goal, we gained momentum, with Kim being unlucky and hitting the post. After a sustained period of pressure, however, Hawks kept their nerve when two members of the opposition were penalised at a short corner and the defence were reduced in numbers. Ice maiden Vicky played the perfect pass out wide to Kim who smashed the ball home to continue her recent excellent goal scoring record.
Things went a bit less well from then, with Thame scoring a few, but overall, it was an extremely creditable and dignified performance from a team with whom it is a pleasure to play hockey. Having opened our account in this newly reorganised league back in September with a 9-0 home defeat, we were wondering how this season was going to pan out, but the team have played some excellent team hockey and have made it to a respectable mid-table position. Thank you to everyone who has contributed – all the players, parental taxi services, other halves providing child care and most of all to our wonderful captain Becky. Happy Christmas to you all (oh, and let’s thrash Thame in the return home fixture).
