Ladies' 8s 1 - 0 Oxford Ladies 8s
Hawks Ladies’ 8s welcomed Oxford 8s on a sunny but blustery cold day. Due to player call-ups into other teams the 8s were at minimum capacity of 11 players and everyone was in for the full stint. In a cautious first half, chances were few and far between as the Oxford rivals seems to match each other tactically in an even and balanced first half.
After the break the game opened up and both teams began to create chances. The score line, however, remained unaffected at 0-0 for most of the second half, thanks largely to many super saves from Purdy. In such a tight game, the result was always going to be decided by a decisive move, which Hawks ultimately produced.
With 3 minutes remaining Sofia superbly turned defence into attack. Dribbling down the right wing, Sofia linked up nicely with Libby. Lottie supported the break and took up a great position by the far post. Taking her chance Lottie slotted the ball home under the Oxford keeper. The late goal secured Hawks the victory and topped off a strong team performance. There were nominations for player of the match for Lottie, Shan and Charlotte but player of the match was awarded to Sofia who had a great game.
Thanks to Evelyn Hargraves for the great photos.
