Ladies' 4s 1 - 0 Amersham & Chalfont Ladies 2s
A slightly depleted Ladies 4s team faced top of the table Amersham and Chalfont this week. Knowing that a high quality performance would be required, Hawks started strongly with a lot of hard work off the ball paying dividends both in creating chances going forward and in defence against a very young, well organised opposition. After controlling much of the first 25 minutes, Hawks were awarded a free hit just outside the 23m line. Catherine Taylor played a ball into the circle for Nele Quast to get a touch on and deflect into the path of Kim Williams who finished over the top of the advancing keeper! Hawks deservedly took their 1 - 0 lead into half time.
Amersham and Chalfont started the second half strongly but could not get past the Hawks defence. Player of the Match, Alice Roskell was outstanding at half back, denying many opposition attacks and showing great composure on the ball when under considerable pressure. To be fair, much of this could be said about almost everyone on the pitch in a maroon shirt today - it really was a very joined up, whole team performance!
The second half was a more even affair and Hawks were relieved when they thought they had scored a second goal with six minutes to go but it was disallowed for an infringement in the circle leaving a nail biting finish to the game. Trinity St John Cox in the Hawks goal had to make a crucial save in the final minutes when an Amersham and Chalfont forward finally found a way round the Hawks defence but was well up to the task. Hawks were delighted to take all three points from a high quality game and equally delighted with the performance.
Thaks to Evelyn Hargraves for the great photos.
