Hawks Ladies 2s struggle in Maidenhead
13 November 2021, 11:30, Altwood School
Ladies' 2s 1 - 2 Maidenhead Ladies 1s
Oxford Hawks L2s travelled to Maidenhead on a rainy and cloudy Saturday looking forward to the game ahead of us. We found ourselves with limited time in the warm up but prepared well and were all set for a big game. Hawks certainly started the better team, putting together multiple passages of in our attacking D and looking to score early. We had a number of short corner opportunities early in the first half but were unable to convert these. Maidenhead grew into the game through the course of the first half, beginning to put us under pressure on the counter attack. Unfortunately, we found ourselves 1-0 down at half time but were determined to get an equalizer and try to push ahead in the game.
The second half Hawks came out strong again, showing resilience and determination to get back into the game. Player of the match Lucy converted a short corner to get us level at 1-1 with just over half of the second half still to play. We continued to cause problems for Maidenhead and pushed hard to convert more opportunities in open play, but couldn’t get the final touch. With around 15 minutes left on the clock, Maidenhead converted a counter attack chance at the far post and went ahead again at 2-1. Hawks continued pushing hard to find another equalizer, with everyone working hard to press high up the pitch and force a turnover. We won ourselves a short corner right at the end of play but sadly it wasn’t to be this week, the end result a 2-1 loss.
