Ladies 4s battled hard but Reading 4s take the points

13 November 2021, 12:30, Banbury Road North (Top)

Ladies' 4s 2 - 3 Reading Ladies 3s

The day started off with a detailed team talk and match strategy from Rebecca Brodie. The team arrived on the pitch with high hopes and positive mindsets. Hawks had a great start with an early drive forward followed with a beautiful pass to Karen and a chance of getting a goal, but the goal was narrowly missed. Next came a short corner from Reading Hockey Club in which they scored, leading 1-0. This did not phase Hawks as we came strong with a quick succession in a short corner where Kim scored. Following this we had a second short corner, however this one was not as successful. Special mention goes to Linda, our goal keeper, who performed some magnificent saves: many dives, great anticipation and a wonderful high save from a Reading player chipping it up. Second half started 1-1 and Hawks came out strong. A tense 14 minutes of attacking and defending, however chaos occurred in our defending D which was followed by a Reading penalty flick on goal, which they scored. Hawks knew they needed to fight back and doing so with a lovely pass from Flo at the top D to Nele who scored to make it 2-2. Reading however came back strong with a quick return up the pitch with a quick pass which led them to winning the game 3-2. Throughout the game our defensive play was excellent, with all of the defenders doing a great job to prevent any Reading short corners by clearing the ball outwards. As a whole, I would say we played very well as a team, just a shame they nicked in a goal
