Despite an energetic start at BRN for Hawks 3s against Wycombe 1s it was the visitors who took an early lead after a well-executed counter attack. Encouragingly, Hawks controlled the game from that moment on, and an equaliser seemed inevitable as they dominated the ball. At the other end of the pitch, the excellent Si Robinson and James Price dealt with any threat from Wycombe in an assertive manner.
The inevitable goal did come, and came from the stick of Edgar Easterbrook, a sight becoming very familiar as he continues to find the net this season. This particular goal finished off an attractive move, as Hawks were playing some classy hockey. Hawks’ search for the lead didn’t last long, making it 2-1 almost immediately after play restarted. This time it was Tim Betts who took the glory, but Matt’s second assist of the game deserves acknowledgement.
Half time arrived, and constructive words followed from Si and Fraser, as well as new man in the dugout, Hutts.
For the large majority of the second half, Hawks were comfortably in control and very nearly doubled their lead through Arthur Baldock, who expertly took the ball round the keeper, and then unfortunately forgot how to hit it. The 3’s grip on the game was tested towards it’s conclusion, as Wycombe piled on the pressure in pursuit of an equaliser. But the full-time whistle was blown, the score remained 2-1 to Hawks, and the 3 points were ours.
