This week, the ladies twos were playing at home, and it was a clash with top-of-the-table Reading 2s.
We started strong, retaining possession and playing patiently. It was in the 14th minute where Caro Harris seized an opportunity, coolly slapping the ball straight into the goal. Reading reacted well however, putting us under pressure with several short corners - none of which managing to get past the wall that is Emma Paige. Then, in the 27th minute exactly, Odders took hold of the ball and buried it confidently in the right hand corner with a lovely reverse stick hit, taking the score to 2-0. However, 2-0 wasn’t enough to end the half on, so with some lovely connections being made through the midfield, the ball found itself with Harri H, who took a strike from the top of the D, which met the stick of Kathryn P, who deflected it into the corner to make it 3-0 as the whistle went.
Wilko imparted some words of wisdom, and were ready and raring to go into the second half - which was a slightly different story.
Reading really started to heap the pressure on, and a slightly more defensive stance was adopted by all. Everybody knuckled down and worked well for one another, keeping Reading at bay and refusing any chances they had, meaning Hawks ended a tough half with a clean sheet!
MOM went deservedly to Emma Page, with incredible saves made throughout. And DOD went to Henri Gordon, for losing her face mask earlier this week at training!
Many thanks to Evelyn Hargraves for the excellent photos.
