Ladies 3s go ahead but fail to hold on against the Uni students

30 October 2021, 10:00, Banbury Road North (Near)

Ladies' 3s 2 - 5 Oxford University Ladies 2s

The Ladies 3s were up bright and early on Saturday, prepped in all our waterproofs to battle the 100% rain forecast for the duration of our match. As the whistle went to begin the match the sun poked it’s head out and it turned into a glorious day, how lucky we were! The game got of to a cracking start with a textbook short corner goal, something the team has been practising well and it’s paying off! It was very much a team effort starting with an excellent pull out from Jen Wells, straight to Emma Stephenson at the left who pinged it at Annabel, ready and waiting at the far post. With a cheeky swish of her stick, GOALL!!!!!! 1-0 to Hawks.

Unfortunately, Oxford Uni 2s were not still drunk from the night before and were ready and waiting for a comeback. Two neat goals followed in the first half but the Ladies 3s weren’t giving up, it was an even match in the middle of the pitch and we played some of the best hockey of the season! Freya, Birtles and Lucy kept a tight ship at the back and the driving force from our defence pushed us forward into the D.  Victoria Sauven struck beautifully from another well won short corner and left the keeper no chance with the strong strike from the left slip. Oxford Uni 2s didn’t take too kindly to this and pulled out all the stops to two quick goals in succession.

The final score was 5-2 to Oxford Uni, but had it not been for an outstanding, Player of the Match performance from our GK Trin it could have been worse. Trin was not afraid to come off her line and made sure Oxford Uni knew she was ready and waiting for them! Onwards and upwards for our game against Aylesbury next week!
