Disappointment in 3-1 loss
16 October 2021, 13:00, Banbury Road North (Near)
Men's 3s 1 - 3 Oxford Men's 2s
A slow start for the Men's 3s in their game against Oxford kept their defence very busy early on and despite some last-ditch tackles - including a lovely one from Tom Arnott - Oxford snuck a goal in after consecutive short corners. Their lead was soon doubled after some effective pressing from the Oxford forward line forced an error. The goals reflected Oxford's early play, as they were sharper and more alert in the first 20 minutes. Towards the end of the first half, a few short corners for Hawks went close, but the score at half-time was 2-0.
Half-time resulted in some harsh words from Chris Pittaway, words which were unfortunately deserved after a lacklustre showing.
In the second half, we improved as a side with greater intensity and quality throughout, and Pittaway's words of wisdom were seemingly working. However, Oxford struck with a decent goal and Hawks were left chasing a 3 goal deficit. Edgar Easterbrook pulled one back with a poacher’s finish, finally rewarding the improvement in play. Despite this, not much of note followed apart from some abuse (constructive criticism) from Ben Pearce directed at his defence, and some heroic charges from the half-back Andy. Their goalkeeper had a very good game, and the game ended 3-1.
