Finally a first win in the new league for the L6s

16 October 2021, 10:30, Iffley Road

Ladies' 6s 2 - 0 Oxford University Ladies 4s

It was a surprisingly warm Saturday morning for October and despite some overnight rain the sun was shining too.
Hawks started strong with a lot of pressure on the Oxford Uni goal, including an early short corner.  Passes were going to Hawks sticks.  Then we got a long ball through to Linda who was unmarked high at the top of the D,  She held up the ball and drew the keeper while waiting for support.  Then she slipped the ball left for Polly to run on to and put into the open goal for Hawks to go one goal up.  Then just before half time, Hawks got a free hit just outside the D, once it was in the D it was hit towards goal, deflected off a defender's foot and went through to Pip who finished it off.  We went into half time, 2-0 up.

In the second half, University came back strong but our defence held strong.  Despite lots of effort from both sides, no more goals were scored.  But the whole match was played in a great spirit by both teams and was a very enjoyable game.

Joint Players of the match were Fran and Emily who both had excellent games.

And to top it off, Oxford University teas, along with Jess's chocolate brownies, were delicious - veggie chilli with rice, plus naan, nachos, cheese, etc - and were on a par with Jan's veggie dahl.  The best away teas we have had for a long time!!!!
